“I’m Kymarly, I’m 20 and from Sherwood. I’m working at a site in Trent Quays for D J Swallow, we’re doing some brickwork, building up the walls and a suspended concrete and beam floor at the moment. Before starting this I was at college for three years and after that I got my CSCS card and went and started doing a bit of labouring and a bit of demolition work and refurbishment. I was mainly working for agencies before I started here.”
What’s your normal day like?
“We start at 7:30 in the morning till about 4pm in the evenings, so a very early start. I like working outside, it’s very good, it’s just like when it’s winter you’ve got to make sure you’re nice and padded up and warm! I enjoy working with other people, learning what I can, actually building stuff, getting hands on, that’s like all fun for me.
Where do you see yourself in 3-4 years?
“I see myself being a professional, knowing the trade, just earning my money, saving my money, probably getting a house for myself, keeping going forward not just staying at one level, keep working, getting my tickets and going up. It’s a good job, it’s not just about the money, you get to interact with people, it keeps you busy, gets you out of the house and then what you learn here you could do at other jobs, or even other countries, you know how to build, it’s great.”
